I am celebrating a wicked mothers day by blogging on my new iPhone! The stars have finally aligned and all my wishes come true. Aside from Ethan’s obession with my new phone (he assures me that 5 year olds need iPhones too) we had such a great day. The boys cooked us the best eggs Benedict ever – Ethan calls it eggs burn a dick – and then we headed off to Muriwai. The day was perfect, light offshores so it was fairly warm for this time of year. Louie even seemed really happy on the beach for once.
The tide was too high for safe rockpooling so we finished up at the ramp and the bmx track = happy tired boys. We love Murivegas and I love being a Mum xxxx
When almost a month passes with no bloggy, I must be in a serious funk. I am all funked out that is for sure. March has brought with it the stress and pressure of preparing all of our company’s media for the Auckland Boat Show, consecutive assignments at uni (one still to do this weekend), little design jobs here and there, Dave working mammoth hours (78 last week), Ethan’s schedule getting busier and busier, the tanks have run dry 3 times in the last 5 weeks! and the news of a new baby. Mostly the latter has got me all funked out – 24 hours a day.
I was sick with Ethan, but only in the mornings, this time I am sick ALL DAY LONG. A token spew can happen right before bed for example. And the tiredness. Oh how I had forgotten. I just want to stay in bed all day, everyday. Hence my house is a disaster and I eat lots of toast.
I wish I was excited about being pregnant again but even thinking about it at the moment is enough to send me running to the bathroom.
Oh, and the National Party? Don’t even get me started, they can also be blamed for my general feeling of curl up in bed with a pillow on my head.
So, because Peta asked so nicely I will jump back on the blog-wagon and catch-up on all that March has brought for the Jacks.
Project 365: Week 4
The week that was Monday January 18th – Sunday January 24th, 2010

Monday - It is so dry, only the weeds in the lawn are growing

Tuesday - Ethan is mad about Pokemon and despite our best efforts we cannot find any stores that still stock the toys here. Ethan is a bit behind the times it seems. But, there are Pokemon a-plenty on Ebay. So little boy gathered up whatever currency he could muster, including ALL of his pocket money and Christmas money and gave it to me so we could buy the Pokeball of his dreams. And a little boy waits. Now we just have to survive until the package finally arrives from the states.

Wednesday - Ethan was called upon to rescue our neighbour Sarah from a giant Weta that was dozing on her couch. He was no match for Big E and his Creeper Keeper. Tagged and released of course!

Thursday - These were so velvety and vibrant in the midst of the dry brown garden I couldn't resist.

Friday - Ethan has been spending the days I work with his Nana and they ALWAYS do something fun. Like fish for sprats. Boy-child that hair.....

Saturday - Was rainy and dull and cold. So we cooked; muffins, fruit leather and homemade strawberry ice-cream.

Sunday - There are no words for how much I love this child and his Daddy, who strum and sing and enjoy EVERYTHING together.
Project 365: Week 2
The week that was Monday January 4th – Sunday January 10th, 2010

Monday - "Good morning Jim, how did you sleep?"

Tuesday - ummmm WELCOME TO MURIVEGAS PEOPLE!

Wednesday - A Cheetah and his Dog, yes I know my son is wearing a leotard....

Thursday - Fishing for sharks w/ Nana & Grandad

Friday - Happy Happy boys, boys, boys.....except maybe Louie

Saturday - Put your fresh snapper in a pie! Believe me, it's incredible

This is what you do when you live in the sticks, the tanks are low, your pool is low and there is a chance of rain. I thought of this myself....don't judge!
Twenty-ten is going swimmingly so far. The days are long, hot and lazy, the weather has been great and we are all happy and healthy. Even more so due to the odd appearance of a Resolution List prepared by Dave on New Years Day.
It wasn’t a list of resolutions though, more like commandments and was called The New Deal.
- No alcohol for 30 days beginning January 1st
- New budget to be made
- Stick to the list at the grocery store, list will be made according to a weekly menu which will also be made
- No impulse buying
- SAVE MONEY
- Baby?
So, 10 days in we are doing really well. Neither of us have had a drink and the desire to have an evening glass of wine or cocktail seems to be waning as well. The best part apart #1 is that I have lost 1kg! I’m so happy about this, I have also been exercising more (which is quite easy as living with Dave is akin to living with Jillian from TBL – the man LOVES to run).
My sleep has proufoundly improved also. I am so used to waking up in the morning with a stiff, sore, exhausted jaw from grinding / clenching my teeth in the night, I was astounded when I awoke one morning early in the New Year with a pain free and relaxed jaw. I’m not sure whether I can attribute this to the lack of alcohol or the reduction in caffeine intake due the removal of bourbon & cokes from my nightly routine – but whatever is responsible, it can only be good.
As for the rest of the list, well there has been no impulse buying because there is literally no money to buy anything so we are doing well there!
I have also got everything rolling for uni again, my course manuals came in the mail yesterday so I plan to get ahead on my reading before semester starts.
So considering that I never make resolutions and sticking to them may be an even rarer occurrence, I think The Jacks are kicking 2010 off in a very good way.
We had another awesome no-spend day today, as is my goal most days it seems! Luckily there is heaps to do around here so it is quite easy to plan adventures that keep Ethan amused and happy.
Today we borrowed our landlords kayak which has a child’s seat (score) and drove to the dock at the end of our street to head up river for the first time. It was stunning, I can’t believe we have lived here for 7 months and never been on the river. The quiet was astounding and surprising considering how close we live to the city. The river was warm and alive, we saw mullet jumping, herons diving and many elusive bait biters that Ethan couldn’t quite get in the boat. It was a glorious paddle with much precious time with my boys.
