Before we begin, let me preface this post by saying in no uncertain terms, “First World Problem”.   Just so you don’t have to point it out to me mmkay?

So, back ground;  We are on tank water.  A month ago we had our tank cleaned and refilled by a tanker from town supply.  Ever since my hair has been like this – a big, tangly, dry mess of borderline dreads, every shampoo, conditioner, treatment leaving a sticky residue in my hair.  Believe it or not, yesterday I washed, combed and blow dried my hair, normally this would result in lovely sleek, straight hair.  Now it looks like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket.  I can’t brush it, style it, straighten it.  <insert ALL the crying emoticons here>.

I called my hair stylist a couple of weeks ago and she recommended washing my hair in dishwash to remove the chlorine and any residue, which it did and it felt a lot better for a couple of days, but the conditioner and treatments weren’t doing anything to sort out the damage and tangles.  My conditioning go-to, filled with silicone Pantene even has NO effect!  Look at my ends!  I had a trim 6 weeks ago!

I headed to the salon this morning for some advice and walked out with this;

That is $140 of hair care products that better work, otherwise I’ll be crying over the Visa statement and my hair.  Luckily there were a couple of freebies to ease the pain but still, my god.

Has this happened to anyone before?  Any tips?  And FYI my hair hasn’t been highlighted in a year, so it’s not damage from over-processing.

Spread the love

    Try conditioning with organic coconut oil. I had the same problem living in PR with only saltwater showers for days and I wish I’d had coco oil then for my skin and hair! Xxx

    Argan oil too. I got the recent vegan cuts beauty bag and the oil they sent for hair and nails is amaze. my nails are immediately better after 3 days application!

    I don’t know about fixing hair, but there must be some kind of filter that you can put in the pump to filter out chlorine and filter the hard water? Sounds awful though. I hate the way my hair goes after I’ve been swimming in a pool.

    Filter is a great idea. If anything for just the water you wash your hair with!
